Reuniting Animals
Wellington SPCA cares for lost cats, kittens, puppies, rabbits, birds and other small animals. As an approved organisation under the Animal Welfare Act (1999) we care for the animal for 7 days before the animal becomes our property. In cases where the animal is healthy and does not have any temperament problems we put them up for adoption after 7 days if no owner has come forward.
Wellington SPCA takes reasonable steps to try to find the owners of lost or stray animals that come to the animal centre. We scan all incoming animals for a microchip. We also keep a register of found pets at reception so you can phone us or drop in to see if any pets matching your pets description has been brought in to Wellington SPCA. For animals we think may be owned, we photograph them and put them here on our website here. We recommend you check back with us at least every 5 days to see if your pet has been brought to our animal centre.
Wellington SPCA frequently gets calls from people who have lost their pet. Due to the large numbers of pets that go missing and the difficulty in matching up descriptions, we are unable to keep a list of missing animals.
