Animal Ambulance

Our Animal Ambulance service operates 24 hours per day, 365 days per year.

Wellington SPCA has an extensive coverage area, which is serviced by 5 inspectors working out of our two shelters in Wellington and Kapiti.

The Wellington shelter covers a wide area from Island Bay to Wainuiomata.

The Animal Ambulance provides emergency assistance to wild, stray or lost animals requiring urgent medical attention. However the service does not provide pet transport for animal owners who are clients of private veterinary clinics.

Each year the Animal Ambulance responds to more than 350 emergency incidents including more than 100 serious animal cruelty complaints.

To meet the demands of providing this service Wellington SPCA operates a modern fleet of vehicles capable of rapidly responding to the needs of animals in most situations and all parts of our region.

Animal Welfare Inspectors crew our Ambulance vehicles, which are equipped with all the necessary equipment to deal with an array of animal emergencies.

This service is funded entirely by your generous donations and the assistance of local businesses.
