Hi all, as you’re probably aware we’ve been having issues with the ‘Animals for Adoption’ website over the past couple of weeks – the images of new animals cannot be displayed due to a technical error.
While we are working on solving this problem, a temporary solution has been to link our animal profile pages to Flickr. Shortly when you go to any of our animal profile webpages, there will be a link in the description that says ‘See my Image Here’. Click on the link and you’ll be taken to the animal’s picture on Flickr.
Flickr will also let you look at all the animal portraits in sets – for example you can click here to see all our cats and kittens currently available for adoption.
Thanks for your patience and we hope to have the issue fixed as soon as possible.
A member of the public found these three bunnies abandoned at a property in Stokes Valley. There’s Alice, Dinah and White Rabbit.
We’d be grateful to receive any information about who may have abandoned these rabbits, as they were left to fend for themselves, which is very neglectful.
Of course, we also want to find new homes for them! Would a rabbit or three make a good addition to your family? You never know what wonderlands they might lead you to!
For more information, give our friendly adoptions team a call on 04 389 8044.
Today was a busy day for feline adoptions, with four young cats going to new forever homes. We’re really happy about that, but to put things in perspective – we also had a dozen incoming felines today too.
This wild cat and her four kittens were brought in today after being trapped as part of our Trap, Neuter, Return programme.
If we were to open the cage, the mother cat would be bouncing around the room trying to get out, abandoning her kittens. Even though she looks relatively relaxed in these photos, wild cats are unhandleable, so she can’t be rehomed. Once the kittens are weened, she will be desexed, have her ear cropped to show that she’s been desexed, and returned to the area she was caught.
The kittens, meanwhile, will go out to foster care until they’re big enough to be desexed as well, then brought in to the centre to be adopted out. As kitten season continues, even the newest staff members will stop going “awwww” at every new kitten litter that comes in, because we’ll see so many of them (but of course we will still care about their welfare and make sure that they are well looked after!).
Please help us stem the flow of unwanted animals by ensuring that your animals are desexed. We also always need more donations, volunteers and fosterers to look after our animals.
Maddox was brutally attacked and left with a broken leg — all before his first birthday.
The animal welfare inspectors are working hard to find out how he came to be in this sorry state, but in the meanwhile we’re focusing on getting him better.
The vets at Wellington SPCA say he’s recovering very well. His leg is healing nicely and he’s looking forward to finding a new home with a family who will love and care for him.
Now that the surgical pin has come out of his leg, he is not in pain anymore and that has made Maddox much more boisterous! He’d love a home with a big section where he can run around, and an owner who will train him well. We’re keen to get Maddox into a new home as soon as possible so he can forget about all the trauma.
Brie has been with us since August 28, 2010, and while she’s in foster care right now, we’d love to get her out into a permanent home before her year anniversary!
I’m a pretty girl with cattitude! But don’t be put off. I’d love a home where I’m the only cat and can get lots of attention. I enjoy sitting on your lap and being given a good pat, but only on my terms! I do however have my super smoochy moments just like any other cat, and I especially love head rubs. I’m a bit of a sun worshipper and love a warm sunny spot outside. I have been at the SPCA for nearly a year now and many cats have come and gone and I want a home to call my own too. Could that be yours?
To help find Brie are home we are offering a fantastic ‘Brie Adoption Pack’ containing all you need to get started. Brie will go home with:
carry cage
cat toys
bedding
food bowls
food
cat treats
litter
litter scooper
litter tray liners
brushes
‘Boner’ cookie cutter
puppy jumpers.
If you’re interested in bringing Brie into your family – (or know of someone who could be), please email info@wellingtonspca.org.nz or call 04 3898044 x 809 to arrange a meet and greet.
Here at Wellington SPCA, we’re not just all about cats and dogs.
From time to time, our vet team and caregivers find themselves looking after some of our feathered friends too!
And as you can see from the video, we’re currently caring for four beautiful birds. Luckily we’ve found a home for all of these guys, but we would love to hear from you if you could offer a home to a friendly chook or a gorgeous rooster.
We would prefer homes on a lifestyle block, a farm or with someone who has experience caring for wildfowl.
So, if you already have a flock, have experience or know someone who may be able to help, please call us today on 04 389 8044 ext. 0 and we can look to getting you added to our list of potential future adopters.
Meet Frizzle, the cutest little five-month-old kitten you may ever come across.
Frizzle was found abandoned in a rented property and was brought into our Newtown animal centre. As you can see from the video, she’s a super cute, super friendly girl and she has the loudest purr.
We’re making this special plea for Frizzle because she needs a very special owner. Frizzle has a medical issue that may affect her in later life but as you can see at the moment, she’s a lively, playful little kitten who just needs to be in a loving home where she can get heaps of affection.
If you’d like to know more about Frizzle or would like to offer her a home, please call us on 04 389 8044 ext. 0.
If you can’t adopt Frizzle, please consider making a donation to help care for her until we can find her a home.
These four tiny puppies are now safely in our care after being found abandoned in a cardboard box in the Lower Hutt suburb of Woburn on Monday.
The cries of the cold and hungry six-week-old female terrier cross pups alerted a Woburn resident as he returned home to his nearby property at around 8pm.
Being the owner of two young dogs himself, their rescuer decided to take the puppies in for the night – giving them food and water and even constructing a special temporary bed for them.
“We are so grateful to the gentleman who, out of the kindest of his heart, not only prevented these puppies from spending a night outside in the bitter cold, but also from what would have been a much different and uncertain future,” Vanessa Hetherington, Wellington SPCA spokeswoman.
The dumping of these puppies is extremely sad and disheartening for us. We provide a 24-hour emergency service, can offer low-cost desexing as well as help and advice to people who may be struggling to care for their pets.
“There is no need for people to put helpless animals at risk in this way. We are here to help.”
But despite the already large number of puppies (approximately 40) currently in our care, we have taken in the unwanted strays, who will remain in our care until a suitable loving home can be found.
However, as a charity that receives no direct government funding, we depend on donations from the public to continue to provide our life saving services.
If you can make a donation to help feed, house and care for these tiny puppies, along with the hundreds of other animals in our care, you can make one online or by calling our credit card hotline on 04 389 7387.
You can read the pup’s story as it appeared on Stuff.co.nz.
This incident comes as RNZSPCA released a national press release highlighting a major problem SPCA’s across the country are facing as the tide of unwanted puppies and dogs keeps coming.
This is Pepper (as a puppy), previously known to us as Bee, who was adopted from our Newtown animal centre in October 2009 as a three-month-old pup.
Pepper celebrated her second birthday last week and just to show how awesome a dog she has become, owner Emily has shared this video with us. Enjoy.
If you would like to adopt one of the many awesome dogs currently in our care waiting for their forever home, check out our adoption pages or pay us a visit.
