The Good Morning show

Once a month we have a slot on TV One’s Good Morning show when we get to talk about animal welfare and take along some of our animals in need of homes.

This morning’s show featured Sprocket and Wizard and was all about the benefits of adopting an adult dog.

Check out Sprocket and Wizard’s star turn here [128 k] (you need to fast forward to 23min and 45sec).

Sprocket and Wizard are just two of about 25 adult dogs currently in our care, who really need a loving new home NOW! Why not take a look at them, and all the dogs available for adoption on our website? If you can offer any of the dogs, or any other of our animals a home, please give us a call today on 04 389 8044.

Cats on the radio

Wellington Access Radio 783am was the first community radio station to be established in New Zealand and has been broadcasting since 1981 from studios based in central Wellington.

The station is by, for and about the community and one of the regular programmes on the station is Animal Rights and Wrongs. The show, broadcast every Saturday at 11am and presented by Debra Ashton and Eric Wolff, discusses all manner of animal welfare matters from factory farming to cosmetics and zoos.

Recently, two of Wellington SPCA’s staff members were invited to the studio to talk about various aspects of our work. Specifically, they were asked along to talk about a Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) initiative which has been set up by Wellington SPCA and is supported by Wellington City Council.  The scheme has been established to tackle a burgeoning stray cat population in a suburban area of Wellington.

You can listen to the show here – (opens in Windows Media Player). The interview of Wellington SPCA’s staff starts at about 15min 45sec in.

If you want to find out more, you can read more about the setting up of the TNR scheme and an update on how it is progressing.

Bunny bonanza!

RabbitThis week (10 – 18 July) is ‘Bunny Hop’ week.

As a result of some fantastic media coverage in The Dominion Post, TV One’s Good Morning show, ZM radio and Newstalk ZB, we are so pleased that all of the rabbits currently in our care now have adoptions pending!

Not only that, but two of the rabbits we were caring for, ‘Calpurnia’ and ‘Boudicca’, have now been reunited with their owner.

BUT, there are still more rabbits that are in need of homes who are just not at our Newtown centre at the moment. If you are able to offer a home to a rabbit, please still give us a call – we still need your help!

Don’t forget, we’ve always got lots of other animals in need of loving new homes, so be sure to check out our website for all the animals we currently have available for adoption.

Some very special guests will also be coming along  to talk about their experiences helping animals recover from sickness and injury.

Hop to it!

June BugWellington SPCA is experiencing a sense of déjà vu.

Earlier this year we reported that the numbers of rabbits in our care and in need of new homes had reached critical levels. Sadly, the situation has occurred again with nearly 25 rabbits currently being available for adoption.

And with the arrival of the cold and wet wintery weather, it’s even more imperative that our bunnies find warm loving new homes soon.

So, Wellingon SPCA is holding its a ‘Bunny Hop’.

With thanks to the generosity of Bunnings, from Saturday 10 July to Sunday 18 July only adopt a rabbit from us and we will include a fantastic custom-made rabbit hutch, at a hugely reduced price – the perfect first home for your new bunny.
