Injured Animals
Create a “rescue kit”
for small animals that can be kept at home and in your car.
This kit needs the following:
• Cardboard cat box (lined with newspaper)
• Old towels and blankets
• Plastic bottle (filled with water)
• Phone number of your local SPCA and vet clinic (you
could write this on the side of the cat box)
If you come across an injured animal these items can be used
to help the animal.
When handling an injured animal be careful as they may bite
or scratch when in pain. Use the blanket or towels to wrap
the animal up so it can’t bite or scratch you. The blanket
will also help keep the animal warm (which is important to
prevent the animal from going into shock).
Place the animal in the cat box for transportation to the
SPCA or vet. The box will prevent the animal from harming
itself further or running away.
Some animals will need extra warmth so you can fill the plastic
bottle with warm water and place under a towel next to the
animal.
Do not feed the animal as if it needs an operation food may
interfere with any drugs the vet might need to give the animal.
Call the SPCA or vet immediately for help and advice.

Lost And Found Animals.
If the animal is uninjured and appears lost:
• Talk to a parent or guardian about the animal before
you approach the animal.
• If the animal is a dog you will need to call you
local animal control authority. Tell them where the dog
is and what it looks like.
• If the animal is a cat it may be just visiting and
will probably go home eventually.
• Do not feed the animal as this will encourage it
to stay.
• If you are concerned that the animal is lost talk
to your parents or guardian. You could create a flyer for
your neighbours with a description of the animal.
Found animals can be registered
on the following services.
