Wellington SPCA today is a dynamic, forward-thinking organisation. From our beginnings in 1884 we have seen many changes, but our focus has remained the welfare of animals.

Our policies have now brought us to the forefront of animal welfare. All this has been achieved with the direct support of people like you, as Wellington SPCA does not receive any government funding.

By adopting an animal from us you will be given six months complimentary membership. This will enable you to receive information from us that may help you make informed decisions regarding your new friend, and animal welfare issues in general.

Our Work In The Greater Wellington Region Includes:

•The rescuing, rehoming and reuniting of thousands of animals in the community.
•The spaying or neutering of all companion animals before rehoming in an effort to reduce overpopulation.
•A 24 hour animal ambulance service, ensuring immediate attention for injured animals.
•Low cost desexing and veterinary clinic.
•The enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act 1999. Our inspectors investigate reports of cruelty or neglect, and prosecute where appropriate.
•SPCA staff visiting community groups and schools throughout the region. We believe prevention of cruelty is through education.
• The promotion of animal welfare in the community. We take every opportunity to initiate informed debate on animals welfare issues.
